  LOL Peter - as a matter of fact I could have ended up paying an awful lot more.... besides, investments should not be overly tax led, though tax is always a significant factor as you well know.
  
  As for the breakdown of where the government gets its income from, I fail to see the relevance. That tax goes into the same pot and is distributed accordingly, one particular tax is not earmarked for a specific area of government spending. Consequently how the tax you pay gets distributed to different spending areas remains relevant.
