  A gimmick definitely, but perhaps also an attemp at a device?
  
  This once again shows that the words 'value for money' are just as meaningless from this government as the words 'we're all in this together'.
  
  When your kids are at Eton, I doubt you will feel that you are getting 'value for money' from your contribution to state education. On the flip side of course is that going to Eton is 'value for money' as it allows you to influence such stupid ideas as this one.
  
  Usual patronising stuff rom this government.
  
  Barry, that is quite statement (on a number of levels), ref to your income vs other tax.
  
  Just to add, I do agree with your point on declarations of interest. Andrew Lansley would be a first on my list.
