My wife found this monster (3" long) in the garden just now. Any ideas as she's never seen one before?

Years ago I remember seeing this beautiful bright pink moth, once seen never forgotten so I had a head start when searching for the link.

Unfortunately Jan when I returned it had legged it (if that's the right word) into the undergrowth so I know what how it will evolve. It seemed to have a liking for the fuchsias so it may return.

Had a Privet hawk moth on the garden shed a few years ago,thought it was a kids toy at first.They are massive and i think the largest moth found in the UK.
