Yes Ross a feasible list of points-but whether we like it or not this is this most important issue to effect Dover for decades past and to come. Our tune should not change until the power of the port is vested with the people. This is a once in a generation opportunity to make a real difference to life in Dover, using a principle that could sweep across the country-a principle of true localism . This is not a Utopian view but one of practical socialism, recovery and the avoidance of anarchy.(nothing to do with the Labour or ANY political party) When he announced his enthusiasm for 'Big Society' the current Prime Minister had no idea what he was unleashing-but I suspect he will try and take the ultimate credit for it, even though he has created an animal which will eventually consume him. There will always be bickering because you are dealing with humanity-but localism is the key to recalibrating the UK economy in the face of the world's money crisis. You don't need just the middle class to lead the reform-there are plenty of working class heroes out there and quite a number of upper class types who of course have the spare cash to keep it all going. They are going to have get along with each other.
Only the Brits with their famous island mentality can pull this quiet revolution off - the Dover Peoples Port will be the shining showcase example for the rest of the country to follow.
As for the rest of the EU and the world, they are either too highly strung, too greedy, playing catch up or just plain nasty. There's no point in trying to get them to join in-forget'em- unless they volunteer!
