    I must agree GaryC.

    When times are hard - as they are now, people have to cut their coat according to their cloth.
    We might like the idea of buying perhaps better quality, more expensive clothes etc. but needs must.

    Betting shops do better in times of recession, as do charity shops, but as not everyone is hard-up, the quality shops should (but often don't) survive, but when the lower priced/lower quality shops go under, it makes you wonder where we're going.

    M & S in Dover still do quite well - on clothes and food.
