Parking fines

over the last year 240,000 penalty charge notices were issued and around 72% were paid.
in dover district only 63% were paid. - 21 July 2011 10:01115936I think people are fed up to the back teeth with parking charges...and are possibly revolting. Im not long back from continental europe where they have oodles of free parking everywhere..it keeps the towns buzzing. Its a simple philosophy that works. Dover has parking charges on every bit of spare ground and the motorist is over fleeced . Tourists stop for five minutes to go to the loo and there's a ticket on their windscreens. The car being anti green is the worst excuse possible, this kind of nonsense comes down from government giving the green light to continual over charging.
When you think about it...
why do they need to charge you to shop in De Bradelei Wharf?

with de bradelei and premier it is about people parking up for the day there then going to work or shopping.
de bradelei refund the parking charge if you spend a fiver, i don't know if premier inn are the same.
i would be interested to know why there is such a low collection rate in our district. - 21 July 2011 10:39115943They might have twice as much land Howard but its essentially rural land, I agree they have oceans of that, but within town parameters they still have the same town sizes as we have with the same problems..but clearly have a different philosophy.
It would be possible for De Brad and Premier Inn to have a system where the driver and his/her family wasnt fleeced everytime they went there. But as it is they enjoy revenue from a golden cash cow, thats why they do nothing about it.
The logic of charging your own customers before they enter your own door is a bit of an insulting turkey but we all take it.
I would imagine the collection rate is never near a 100% anyway but yes Dover appears to have a low rate of collection. We have a proportionately fluid population who arent going to pay anyway. Many people have court settlements, county court settlements and whathaveyou against them, but they dont pay those either. The centre ground will always pay. Alas I put myself in that category.
The parking rates are so high now, with parking tickets and outrageous clamping coming at you from all directions it now pays to try and get away with it.email: dover7@msn.com - 21 July 2011 10:42115944Parking fees and fines are looked upon as a cash cow by local authorities, they then complain about local businesses not being supported by people who use out of town supermarkets and retail parks who have free parking right next to the shops!Audere est facere.
- 21 July 2011 10:47115945You could always park and walk! There's plenty of 1 hour, 2 hour or 24 hour free parking in Dover, unless we've got something heavy to carry we never pay to park.
- 21 July 2011 14:35115992A free 15 minutes would be good. Many's the time I have gone shopping at a supermarket rather than a small shop because I just want to nip in but not pay for parking.
Also rounding off parking charges so that you don't have to look for small amounts of change (£1.10 or 70p). I realise this is done to maximise revenue - as is the no change policy - but it is hitting the small and independent trader.
