This relates to a topic I have recently challenged DDC with. I am not condoning the habit of parking in an area where you could get a ticket nor do I begrudge the 'profits' generated by enforcement schemes (yes I know they are or at least should be ploughed back into the highways infrastructure) however there are many sources of information publicised / made available within the public domain advising where car parks are and the relevant charges applied etc..

My challenge is that outside of the highway code, council enforced restricted parking areas / zones seem to be a closely guarded secret with only Jo Public made aware of their existence by way of a meagre sign - which may or may not be correct / complete and more often than not are usually trashed / vandalised. Often these signs are located in the most obscure position and at the extremities of a particular zone.

In these days of geo-whatnotting and the availability of electronic information across the country should councils take accountability of publicising these restricted areas / zones making them available to download to satnavs / electronic maps as they do with car parks? This would have the potential to indicate in real time to drivers that they are within a restricted parking area/zone (if they had their gadgets switched on!) or make these areas / zones visible by other means...clearly the option of whether to park in that area is a decision of the driver but to be appropriately forewarned may be enough of a deterrent for some..
