i think that the parking charge issue is a bit of a red herring, whenever i am in deal the footfall is very good.
probably online shopping has done it for mr savage.
his name rings a bell, something to do with a statue for norman wisdom i seem to remember.

I can't remember the last time I paid to park in Deal as there is plenty of on street parking available, in fact there is one road directly opposite the aforementioned shop that I nearly always park in as there is an hour free there...
Been nice knowing you :)

My grandchildren all download their music and never buy CDs, supermarkets also sell cheap CDs and DVDs, I doubt parking charges would make much difference.

I think this is more about a shift in marketing conditions, although I do take the point that High Streets everywhere can be uncompetitive due to parking charges..we spoke about this recently. Out of town shopping complexes have no parking charges generally, drawing in the driver.
But apart from that, the market sadly has moved away from small shops selling CDs. Huge chains have closed or moved into other marketing opportunities..one national outlet closed in Dover not so long ago. Internet downloads appear to be all the rage although I still prefer an ould CD myself. Sad to see a store go though particularly one thats been trading for a long time.

that was a couple of weeks back keith an overwhelming vote for not bringing in parking chsrges - 5/6% turnout.
rather a pointless referendum - would you like to pay parking charges or would you like to park for free?

This is exactly the type of shop that can't survive these days. Top 50 cd and dvd's can be bought in the supermarket or by mail order. The more obscure can only be bought by mail order. I usually buy mine online from HMV, and it's cheaper than in their shop, which is hopeless anyway when you're trying to find anything. I'm surprised that Mr Savage has lasted this long.

ps I usually use the free car park at the end of Mill Road.

You're welcome Jan, the books on odd delights and strange practices never saw much use anyway! As to the appliance I was never man enough to use it.
