23:0628857I have heard a rumour that on match days parking is to be banned near crabble to encourage park and ride. But what about those that live there or don't they count. Bet the proposer doesn't own a car.

09:3928864No Guzzler I dont own a car .Bern you dont live here and you have no idea how bad the parking is on match days .Cars are parked on all the junctions .Cars all along Lewisham Road and Crabble Lane .An emergency vechicle would have the greatest of difficulty to obtain access,
The locals would not be inconveinced because if you have visitors on match days no one can get near their homes .
I had a lift with a Policeman yesterday on my return journey from Dover .Outside of the main gates was the teams coach and two three cars parked alongside causing an obstruction .
Going in to town the bus had yet again the greatest difficulty getting out of Crabble Lane ,also Lyndhurst Road
Before you start sitting in judgement come out here and see the problems .Guzzlwer you cpould have only heard this from Nigel who does not enen come out here to see the problem .
Bern donot blame the council a decision has not been made and as the local Councillor I will look after the people I represent who have the greatest difficulty on match days getting to and fro their homes when a Park and Ride is an easy solution .

09:4328866i cannot see a park and ride working, the bus services are not sufficient, saturday afternoons they are full of shoppers.
furthermore supporters come from all different directions to get to crabble, there would not be sufficient numbers in one place to make it viable.

09:5928871Oh dear...here we go again. Nimby moan moan moans about bleeding parking. Dover Athletic are attracting big crowds (which are set to grow), because we are not only great but doing extremely well. One of the few real success stories in our rotten borough (!).
Deal with it. Or better still, come to Crabble and enjoy the Mighty Whites. The atmosphere's even better than the Proms in the Market Square. White Army!

10:1728874Sue that was not a dig at you, however the problems caused by thoughtless parking can be solved by rigorous enforcement of existing traffic regulations. Whilst i have no interest in football whatsoever i can only be grateful to anything that brightens this town up.

10:1728875Thanks Vic. I've seen you at Crabble a few times. I know you're a fan and a believer in the DAFC cause.
What we're seeing here is the same nimby mentality that probably bollocksed up one of our other great sporting assets 30 years ago - county cricket at Crabble.

11:0228878Also, I may not live in River but I support Dovers events, and I have a car, and I have trouble parking outside my own house in Dover during office hours, so I can understand, believe it or not! It is frustrating, especially if you don't support the footie, to be unable to park near your own house - but it isn't very often, the events are part of Dover which God Knows needs a boost, and perhaps a conversation with people rather than an imposition of rules might be the best, most grown up partnership-working way forward?

12:1628879This a problem all over Dover,In Tower Hamlets many of the roads you cannot park on,other roads only on one side and then on the pavements, only on Friday I had a complaint about cars parking near a church outside people's houses where they have problems parking anyway.
If they ban parking at Crabble then the problem will not go away,it will just move,I live 5 mins walk from Crabble on Buckland Ave,I don't drive which is just as well because I live near a Doctor's surgery and I would never be able to park outside of my house,so if this ban comes in you can bet people will find somewhere else to park,Buckland Ave,including the under uses Car Park near Buckland Bridge and all over River you will just move the problem to smaller roads.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

12:3228880The football club provides stewarded parking for up to 200 cars within the rugby ground. Anybody parking outside does so of there own choice and responsibility. I dont think i have ever seen a police officer or Civil Enforcement Officer ticketing any cars. If they feel its such a problem perhaps they should do that.

12:4828881The idea is for Park and Ride at Whitfield The problem is if you want to pop out on a Saturday afternoon you have a problem .Yes I do like football .Brian The recreation ground was being used yesterday ,the rugby pitch and the football ground .
Guzzler thats what im trying to do to get the enforcement brought in .Why should they get away with parking at junctions ??Yes John it does get moved on but one day unless someone regulates the road near the ground there will be an accident .Yes I could be popular and listen only to the football supporters but as a councillor you can not be popular all the time .I say act now as the crowds due to the success of our team will grow .No its not NIMBY.
Im working for all thwe residents .When we have the carnival the cones are out and we have police ,please explain the diference.
13 September 2009
12:5928882At the Carnival the cones are there to allow the floats to park. Theres nothing stopping the police coming to River on match days and ticketing any cars illiegaly parked, thats there job and there choice. Why on match days should people be stopped from parking where is normally considered to be safe, please explain the difference.

14:2728884Absoultely! As John says, there are challenges about parking everywhere, including outside my own house every day! if people are parked illegally let the law do its work. If they are parked legally, what the hell?!

16:4928889sue, can i sugest that you do a survey on residents within 500 meters of the football ground,to see how many cars the residents have, all so if they have a driveway/garage.a pound to a penny most would have 2 or more cars per household,so thats the theroy.its for you to put it into practice.

19:1728894An easy option would be to come to an agreement with Sita to use the old paper mill site for parking, people walk through the railway underpass and hey presto....
Been nice knowing you :)

20:4728898there would have to be security there though, far too easy for miscreants to operate without being seen, i think that people would be wary of leaving their vehicle there otherwise.
