i hadn't realised it had closed, went past a few times when they were working outside and a sign said "business as usual".

Good grief that's a relief. I thought they were renaming the pub to "Business as usual".
I once played guitar with a band there and we had no audience at all. We even had a huge banner outside the pub to advertise it. The band broke up soon after that. I was never happy with the name Private function.
