  I can't see the police being routinely armed in the foreseeable future, most officers were against it when this argument came up before. From the bits I have gleaned from today's atrocity the police that were sent in were a specially trained armed response unit similar to the ones we have.
  
  France is in a different position to us, they have the largest muslim population in Europe and some of the worst nutters amongst them. I can see civil unrest happening there over this and other incidents.
