Another dreadful shooting incident, this time in Paris at least 12 dead including several Police. Have we reached the time where we routinely arm our police? these attacks are not going to go away and although being armed did not save those in France today there will be times that having a weapon will save them.

I can't see the police being routinely armed in the foreseeable future, most officers were against it when this argument came up before. From the bits I have gleaned from today's atrocity the police that were sent in were a specially trained armed response unit similar to the ones we have.
France is in a different position to us, they have the largest muslim population in Europe and some of the worst nutters amongst them. I can see civil unrest happening there over this and other incidents.

The police that were killed today were on foot arrived on bikes and in a patrol car, this can happen anywhere now. The French will take to the streets and that could make a much bigger target!

Vigils being held for the dead in various countries, rather sad that a video showing the murder of the police officer is doing the rounds on social media.

This was an atrocious act by a few fanatics, there can never be a plausible reason to murder people just because you do not like what a magazine publishes.

Very difficult to defend against determined fanatics, either the lone wolf or in today's case highly trained assassins.
The french security services are in the same position as ours whereby they foil many plots but eventually one gets through, it is a case of when rather than if. We have battle hardened nutjobs back in the country from Syria, fingers crossed that they don't do the same.

the society is changing slowly and this is the sad fact of those so called human beeings. Warhungry riddled minds through and through. Made by humans and their own religion.
This is not what is said and written in the quaran and also not practised .This barabrism on the innocent people is an act of a sick vile minded creature....
I do feel unsettled with these things going on... as I think there is more to this act then we know. maybe testing the waters for bigger things who knows.. and this is distressing.

Unconfirmed reports that both suspects are dead after French Police stormed a print factory in North East France.
Hopefully the hostages in Paris will be freed.

Indeed, only matter of time before they inflict the mass civilian casualties they promise - again.
I was at warren Street tube station on 21 July 2005 just 20 minutes before some brainwashed would-be mass murderer tried to blow up a train there. So I have been a bit too close for comfort to islamist terrorism.
We need to show more understanding, don't we? It is caused by Islamaphobia, right? If we just reach the required level of tolerance they will stop, yes?

It is getting harder as time goes by not to be islamophobic, the horrific crimes from groups like Boko harem and Isis all claim to be in the name of Allah.
In our own country we are informed that many Pakistani muslim men see young girls as fair game resulting in prosecutions slowly taking place after years of blind eyes being turned.
It is one thing being a moderate muslim as most are but the same have to take responsibility and shop the criminals in their midst.

I refuse to worry about anything to do with Islamic fanatics the same as when we had the Irish problems back in the 1970s.
These religious fanatics are few in numbers so why should the vast majority suffer because of them. I just wish as much media time was given to the ordinary peace loving Muslim as to the few extremists who dominate the news.

The trouble is if the true Muslim wants to be accepted as peace loving and distance them selves, then they have to start standing out and shopping the fanatics or are they just like the Irish people who wanted to live in peace in Ireland but when it came to it, they covered up for people in the name of religion and fear.

Sorry Jan but they are not few in number.
World Muslim population: 2.2 billion
Estimated proportion who support Jihad (average estimates of various security services around the world): 15-20 per cent.
Number of Jihadists worldwide: 330-440 million.
Even then, it only takes a handful to wreak havoc. God knows what they would have done by now if all those plots had not been foiled. A dirty bomb in Central London might concentrate minds.
The Nazis were only a small minority of Germans but they caused Germany to wreak havoc across Europe.

I saw this link before and agree the it is awesome.
In relative terms I still think the fanatics are few in number, there are those that shout their mouths off and then there are the really dangerous ones who do.

The French security services have come in for criticism over the two brothers being known to them and writing them off as past it. There are only so many possible fanatics that can be controlled and decisions have to be made about who is the most dangerous. Our own security services are in the same position.

The post above is right we do not have a good record about this kind of thing when you think most of them come from the UK anyway.
