Defence spending increased for several years after the Falklands, it was only reduced after 1990 as a result of the end of the Cold War in Options for Change. So to describe 'service personnel getting their marching orders' Howard, gives the wrong impression. Many did leave after that war as part of a natural turnover of personnel and no doubt some decided to get out as a result of their experiences and yes, many did need help in adjusting back to civvy life that was often not forthcoming.

More help must be made available to them. It is a serious problem that must get the attention it deserves.
