It would appear that the former Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown has entered the AV fight by launching an attack on George Osborne, accusing him of cheap mud-slinging and scaremongering ahead of the alternative vote referendum.
Osborne claimed the society, which gave £1.1m to the yes campaign, would benefit from the adoption of the alternative vote system through its commercial subsidiary, Electoral Reform Services Ltd. But Ashdown states that Osborne's approach is a prime example of why British politics needs radical reform.
"For the chancellor of the exchequer to claim that there is something 'dodgy' about the Electoral Reform Society donating cash to a campaign in favour of electoral reform is bizarre. George Osborne makes the case for change for us. He graphically shows why we need to change our politics. Why we need to clean it up and why the voting public deserve something better."

the whole campaign comes across as low profile despite all the money involved and the major personalities dragged in to make it interesting.
will be interesting to see how many people bother to vote on the subject.

That is my dilemma Howard, whether to vote No or ignore/spoil the ballot. The crucial point being that no matter which side gets the most votes the fact that we have had our chance at change and taken it, we may therefore not get another, more meaningful, opportunity to rid ourselves of the corrupting system we 'enjoy' at present.
The argument that with AV each MP will only be elected if they can muster 50%+ of the 'votes' is receding into nothingness with every pro-utterance.
If we were to be given the French second-election option that would be something else again.
What, above all this, that destroys the notion of true Democracy is the lack difference between the partys vying for our vote. Hobson gave more.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.
Lets see just how we might vote for AV I say No change

with paddy pantsdown(woops ashdown) he's no more a believer in AV than the lib dems.
its a third rate proposal that lib dems dont siupport but its the best they could get through.
so they are campaigning on a second or third rate proposal that they dont support but best threy could get through.
the lib dems both in cabinet and in the party are seething at this, but having achieved this 2nd or 3rd rate p;roposal, they are now clearly dividing from the tories and mr cameron clearly wants tro be seen as one who wont support it.
as barryw says its all ok disagreeing in govt but this issue is one the lib dems stand for(sorry used to stand for lol)
of course mr osborne is correct(blimey wheres my pill bottle lol) its about the yes campain use of this body, which calls into question if its impartial
at the end of theday its unlikely the AV will get through so its realy a lot of hot air
