Going back to the aspect of qualifications, experience and skills for a moment (against the backdrop of P&O alleging that the MCA is being over-zealous on safety inspections), it is worth noting that the MAIB report into the 2015 Dover Seaways
vs Dover Breakwater incident (which the latter won) concluded the cause was directional control being lost for just
28 seconds. This in the harbour where the speed limit is low. So yeah, it is a skilled job all right!
