OK the landlord was a naughty boy and should be fined but £4,481 is possibly enough to financially cripple a small pub like this.

The headline calls it a fine but in that amount there would be heavy legal costs from the organisation that brought the prosecution and payment of what broadcasts he should have paid for. From what I know of that pub there wouldn't be the revenue to cover the amount.

This is one of the lower fines I have seen reported for this offence. Copyright theft is taken most seriously nowadays. We licensees all know the law (or should do) and there's absolutely no excuse for this. A pub in Northampton was recently fined over £17,000 so they have got off lightly.
