I was due to check on the the 3 Dexter cows recently installed up at St Martin's battery but got a message that they have been taken back to the farm after being attacked by a dog. SMB is one of the smallest fields up there so is not popular with dog walkers who much prefer the expanse of Clarendon field. All fields are clearly marked when animals are grazing in them so responsible dog owners will let their dog run free only in vacant fields. It makes me wonder if the attack was deliberate.

That is awful, it must have been a fair sized dog to have done damage to those poor cows.

Following on with this theme, the dog that bit the top of my finger off (when out delivering local Forum newsletters) was found to be a "banned" breed, I.e. Dangerous dog. Sad for the dog but owners must be more responsible (no sign on door, no barking).

This is so sad. We were up there on Tuesday - the day they arrived - and were talking to Paul about them. They were not long away from their mother and very young. I remarked that I hoped no young lads would interfere with them and Paul said he was more worried about people not controlling their dogs up there. Well he was right, what a horrible thing to happen to them.
There were three there, two black and one brown. The brown one was very vocal lol. Pauls assistant took the food down to them and then followed her. We had to leave then but were hoping to see them again.
I hope the dog owners concerned are punished in some way, that's if they can be found. I hope the beautiful Dexters will be ok after this traumatic experience and that we will see them again soon.

Some consolation in the fact that the owner of the dog was caught but if he gets prosecuted the fine will be derisory. Why he let loose such a dangerous dog in public will remain a mystery. Take a look at the photo of the victim and imagine what the dog could have done to a child.

I am so angry about this
I hate to see any animal hurt but particularly these beautiful Dexters. What chance did they have? What Howard says is so true specially had it been a child. I hope the cattle recover from this awful attack soon. Paul must be so upset too

A lifetime ban on keeping animals would be appropriate.
