We're an island nation so it should be a seabird, but not many people have seen a puffin in real life.
Gulls aren't popular so I reckon it should be a gannet - good looking, a great fisherman, and 'eating like gannet' could descibe a large percentage of the population.

I think this is one where we ask ten different people we get ten different answers. I like the Marsh Harrier, never seen one in real life only on Phil Smith's website, the Blue Tit is one we all see and its colouring and song make it a favourite.

I was in Folkestone on Saturday and the chap from the Owl sanctuary was there with his charges, children were queueing up to hold them.
I have to say that owls have qualities that appeal to the british psyche.

Perhaps we should choose a migrant species.

The bird I associate mostly with us is the sparrow so that will do for me. Looked up the most common bird in the country and was surprised to see it is the Wren, how often do we see them?
