Keith - That is a silly and senseless dig at Peter who was merely clarifying what I was saying.
The fact is there are shades of how big/small government should be in both sides of the spectrum. But ultimately that is correct the big left/right divide is between those who place their faith in government and those of us who do not.
There are other characteristics as well by way of attitudes.
The left thinking types, generally, tend to be more prone to trendy ideas on child rearing and teaching, more prone to a belief in softer sentencing for criminals. We on the right tend to be more in favour of discipline in schools and the home, tougher exams and some real punishment for criminals. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule but overall you find such differentiations.
