just spotted on the planning list at d.d.c. an application of a memorial to this action.
looks like they are trying to coincide with the 70th anniversary of this extraordinary feat.

The Swordfish were the planes that struck the Bismark in the Atlantic, enabling the RN to go in and finish it off.
Against 200 Luftwaffe planes over the Strait of Dover, though, and so many ships armed with anti-aircraft guns, in broad daylight, they stood no chance.
Not even Wellingtons would have stood a chance.
It was a heroic action, and the pilots must have known they stood no chance of returning home.
The Defence of our Shores is vital, so we should erect a monument to this heroic battle.

A wonderful write-up to a brave but lost cause.
Perhaps the Planning department should read it, or better still, the application should have gone in before.

i must admit i thought that the aplication should have have gone in earlier.
all we need is a bad winter and there could be logistical problems.
