Open Day at The White Mill Musuem, Sandwich. All welcome !

  Open Day 27th October from 10 am till 4 pm
  
  The White Mill Museum is hosting a special open day to allow parents and children to experience the White Mill and all it has to offer. We are particularly interested in attracting school parties to the Mill for the 2012 season. Everyone is welcome, young and old ! Come and take part:
  
  Grinding your own flour on our hand operated mill stone - the kids love this!
  
  Face Painting
  
  Paint a picture of the mill - win a prize!
  
  Other attractions on the day will include:
  
  The Mill forge in operation, watch how they make horseshoes and more!
  
  Bring a picnic - FREE tea coffee available to all grown ups. Water and or fruit juice available to children.
  
  Heated meeting room and small kitchen area
  Disable facilities on site.
  Plenty of FREE parking
  
  Lots of other things to see and do inside the Millers Cottage and Windmill!

  This all sounds good. I hope there will be sheaths of corn too as so few children can match an end product to it's source.

  Yes you are right, many kids think flour comes from Tesco! .. we have the product in various stages!..
  
  It is good to see their little faces when they have spent five minutes grinding away and they realise that they have actually made something they can use... you'd be surprised how many grown up people don't know how flour was/is made as well!..

  Good luck with that Greg...looks a good family day out. Nice picture of the windmill there. They were considered an eyesore once I believe, bit like todays windfarms...

  Strange how things come full circle..once we needed the power of the wind to grind corn for our daily bread now we need it to heat our homes..whether that is good or bad..I'll let each person decide that.
  
  There is lots to see in the Millers cottage and Mill Sheds, Millwrights Shop, Forge, Cobblers, Cow Shed, All exhibits are from the local area as well. Kent rural life, before 1900...
  
  We are always happy to meet new people and take in artefacts relating to a rural way of life. We also need volunteers to help maintain the place!..
