this now seems like it has been going on for a lot longer than we thought, we will never know how many serious criminals were let in.

It's been going on for donkeys years. At busy times if you wave the cover of a UK passport and have a White face you get nodded through at least 8 times out of 10. We have never ever ever had more than a quick glance at the photos. On one occasion we had the wrong passport for one of the children. Didn't get spotted.

I see Charlie has been quoted there as saying he doesnt think its Theresa Mays fault. If its not her fault then who's fault is it? It has to be somebody's fault doesnt it...and if you are in charge of the operation in its entirety then the buck stops with you...as President Truman said, I think it was him anyway...
"The buck stops here!"
And quite right too. As this problem is current and re-curring.
The UKBA head honcho chap was last seen walking the proverbial plank, but he will re-surface tomorrow before the House of Commons Select Committee...and will reveal all.

all hit the fan tonight on meridian t.v.
our energetic m.p giving his views, naturally he blamed it all on the last government.
this chap was rather interesting, an expert on such matters, he insisted that a normal biometric check takes no longer than
a manual pasport check.

The sad reality of border controls is
a) frontline officers will always try to balance the need to clear passengers quickly against the need to check entry qualifications - most of the time they get the balance right but they are only human
b) UKBA staff are being dramatically cut thus exacerbating the perceived problem - I believe that for example Calais is over 50 officers under official compliment

At the moment and for quite a while lorries that turn up to use the train after 2200hrs there are no checks on lorries at all apart from a cursary check of passports. I cant help wondering how many people smugglers know this. The reason for this is that theres only enough staff to passports and none to man the scanner or check vehicles. Its a joke.

Ross, I was referring to tonnage of freight. I doubt many people come over in trailers. It would hardly go unnoticed, and it would be far too dangerous.

I note that the resigned UKBA top official Brodie Clark has lobbed the ball directly back into Mrs Mays court today, but this time said ball is packed with an explosive cocktail. He did NOT go beyond his instructions said he... "Im no rogue officer" he told the House of Commons committee today.
This clearly puts huge pressure back on the Home Secretary.
There is/was massive confusion all round, either somebody is lying or it was a massive cock-up with a befuddled message coming from the political masters. Labour are on the attack in the Commons, sensing the blood of a Minister.
Her immediate colleagues are closing ranks but clearly it is an unholy mess, with more stories emerging everyday of the immigration chaos.
