    Indeed. Hythe and Romney Marsh beaches used to be that popular for landfall years ago that one wonders why they didn't have a Competent Harbour Authority to regulate traffic. I recall drug runners, illegal immigrants waiting for a train to London at the RH&D station, Old Holborn packets floating in the Channel, occasional attendance by various murky military (no offence meant!) et al. Mainly I remember the cold - oh and rats!
