There are problems Jan as soon as one deviates from the right-on narrative that 'we've always been a country of immigration, and that immigration is good for the economy.

The Norman 'conquest' involved about 8,000 continentals moving here when we had a population of about 3.5 million.

Compare that to the latest stats of around 37% of people living in London being born outside the UK, (14% for the UK as a whole).

So unusual was immigration in our history that the arrival of 50,000 Huguenots was notable.

There was next to no immigration to the UK until the fifties. Fact.

As for good for the economy don't forget this is measured in GDP. GDP can be calculated by adding up all of the money spent by consumers, businesses, and government in a given period.

Import (for example 5 million Chinamen) who spend their entire time selling each other coffee.

    GDP goes up.

Unfortunately nowhere to house them, school their kids etc and A&E looks like down town Beijing!

    Good for the economy?
