Having lived in Dover for 36yrs and the numerous activities I have participated in, charity or volunteering I have always seen the same faces time after time and always being there.
I won't go into names or faces but these people deserve a bloody medal. the only time I see THE OTHER ONES are when they come knocking on my door looking for votes.
For those that are ALWAYS there, WELL DONE,

for the others, GET A GRIP or go away.
Your thoughts.

IAN;
On this very subject, there are 3 types of councillors;
1; good cllrs in both the chamber(speaking) on district wide matters
2; ward cllrs who say little in the council chamber but are good at working in
the community
3; cllrs that are good at neither, but elected because they are in a safe seat
because the job in itself is nearly voluntary but very time consuming if done correctly sadly the wrong cllrs are elected.
]]just my thoughts ian.
iv said on here before we have far to many cllrs and a lot of them could be done away with and no woud notice any difference.
in this one ward alone we have
2 county cllrs
3 district cllrs
4 town cllrs
thats 9 cllrs in one ward alone!!!!
rarely see most of them)(with a few exceptions)
ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS

Ian - are you asking for input from the Councillors, or the electorate ?

Just because tou dont hear see or read about Cllrs it doesnt mean they arent doing thier job Ian,Dover Forum can become insular and we have seen it on the Lord Boyce issue.There are many who choose not to be on here,and the when they post they are sometimes attacked,others are happy at times to tell you what is going on and what they think of.
I work in a very visual place and I see the world and the world sees me,I am as atcive in my ward as I can be,and at meetings I think I have 5 this week! 2 at the same time.You wont see me at these meetings,but I will be there,but I try also to be atcive in the Town as working shifts it helps sometimes but it also means that I miss meetings because of work.
I am also at the present time having real big problems with a member of my family.what comes first? My work and family then my Council work but at times there arent enough hours in the day.So if you dont see me or your Cllr it may be because they are busy,but may be still working for you.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
Ian is right. There are some stonkingly good councillors and although JHG is partially right - being seen to do stuff isn't the same as actually doing it - it is patently obvious that we are short changed by some councillors. Just look at Dover, and some of the almost laughable decisions made recently.
JHG - you do a fab job, and we can see that. So do some others, including Chris P et al.
Being a councillor is not a job for life, and I think we, as Dover residents, have some choices to make in the next elections. The ones who do such a great job are well known - not just because they are visible, some are more visible than others, but because what they do is good, clear, and benefits Dover. And big cheer and hurrah for them - we need them and value them. The others, and we all know who they aren't so it must be the ones left over, should get a sharp elbow.

I think that's a fair point Howard, apart from when there's a new candidate who would/could work very well for the ward, but doesn't get an opportunity purely because he/she is a newby.

point taken roger but usually any aspring councillor would be involved in some way with the local community before taking the step of standing for a council.
there always local forums, newspapers to write to, charity events etc.
Well someone is voting for people who are not performing as well as they might..........
I think one of the main reasons less effective people are not being superceeded is not enough people are voting for the alternatives. I know Roger Keith and Nigel, out of my councellors.
I have no idea who the others are as I have never to my knowlege seen or met them
Many apologies I also know JHG
