McCarthy & Stone are planning to build retirement homes on the site.
Having seen the rough plan to go before DDC I hope it gets passed as soon as possible to get rid of what has now become an untidy eyesore.

From what I have seen their estates are very easy on the eye, I like the one nearly opposite Canterbury college. Mind you anything would be better than what is there now, I seem to remember similar plans for residential accommodation on that site with ample off street parking.

Howard the layout looks quite similar with just a few tweaks. The frontage looks the same the main difference being a largish garden backing onto Salisbury Road.
If anyone wants "further information at this stage, please contact us on our freephone information line number on 0800 298 7040" They have even provided a form to provide further comments about the plan so excellent PR. Maybe DHB should employ the same PR company.

We received a leaflet through the door, probably because we live near the Sorting Office telling us all about it. I do not think they have submitted plans yet to DDC.
" The proposals include 69 high-quality one and two-bedroom Retirement Living Plus (Extra Care) apartments for private sale"
The main difference seems to be a lot more greenery (garden?) while the footprint of the main building looks very similar.

They'd better come with parking. There is already nowhere to park 'round these parts after about 7pm.

This was included in the last Land Allocation Plan
Under current planning guidance from DDC all properties must provide 1.5 parking spaces per residence so here we are looking at an initial requirement for 103.5 parking spaces, though I suspect they will seek planning consent to reduce this to 1 per property maximum

They are providing "mobility scooter storage with charging points" something I suspect the majority will want as the place is for those aged 70 and over.

Until self driving cars. Then they will all want a self driving car.

The site has now been surrounding by hoardings, so expect the building to disappear soon.

I see the scaffolding has started being removed.
They look a bit cheap to me, whereas I was quite impressed with the new builds in Harold Street.

I have mixed views on their looks, but I would suppose it's got to look slightly like what went before?

Yes that is a very good observation.I still prefer my little cottage looking house.I don’t need a retirement flat.
