14:2387890 Previously at the old indoor market down Bridge street, Dover Arts Development have now got their new premises at the old post office sorting office down Frith road. They are offering very flexible rental terms for weekly, monthly or longer term usage for anyone wishing to do projects of sorts. There`s 24 hour access, together with lighting, heating etc and a roller door for vehicle access. Everyone is kindly requested to spread the word of this new facility.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

18:3287933This is where my office is - on the first floor.
There is much work going on there and the young people are fantastic; very hardworking and polite and all working on different skills.
The large area where the arts people are going, is being decorated and worked on now; those (young) people have performed miracles under the direction of LSBC (Learning and Skills for Business and the Community) in such a short time.
They are all going through a two month's assessment and all wlll be "job ready" for when I find a business who is happy to take one (or more) on.

08:5287989That's right Bern, it's an incredible good use and mainly to give the young people a chance of a career and a better life working - everyone has a better life when working.
If there are any business owners looking in, please contact me if you can use a free pair of hands (maybe two or three pairs ?). My email address is
roger.walkden@channelchamber.co.uk and my mobile phone number is 07712 626245

13:1888020That sounds really good, we will need to get up there to interview them.
Roger, is there any space there for possibly a base for DCR during our FM broadcast which will hopefully be later this year? We have space at the Phoenix Club (where work has now started building studios) for the online station / training area but we will need somewhere in town with line of site to the Guston transmitter and broad-band so we can do the 1 month RSL broadcast. Unfortunately we cannot broadcast on FM from the Phoenix Club due to not being in direct line of site with the transmitter (thats the problem with the hills around Dover!).
Thanks for your help
Terry

21:3088104this all sounds very promising, from what roger has said it shows that many of our youngsters are not as work shy as they are sometimes portrayed.

23:0088108The majority of them are not so much work shy they just hate getting up in the morning, please remember I have an eighteen year old grandson.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

08:3688122Thanks Vic. - good to see you and Lesley yesterday.
That is one of the main things we're trying to do Jan - give young people the work ethic; actually getting out of bed in the morning and going to earn some money and hopefully build a career and a future.
Most of the young people there are at the centre by 08.00 so have got their bums out of bed and are still there after 5pm.
I have a number of businesses to follow up on next week and the "Elfin Safety" and H.R. Lady (same person) then goes to the businesses to talk to them.
I hope to let you know very soon which businesses take them on; Peter at Blakes may have been the first and a big Thank You to him and Kathryn; the others deserve a mention too and I will when it's sorted out.
Hope you'll support them and dine/drink there - perhaps try out the youngsters food.
Roger
