It's been revealed today that BP and Shell have made £7.5 billion profit over the 3 month period April to June thats about £84 million a day. However there are no signs of a reduction in petrol pump prices.
With the country struggling it would be nice if the petrol companies helped out by cutting prices therefore reducing the cost of transporting goods around the UK.

So what is that relative to assets and turnover?
Only with that information can you make silly claims of it being 'excessive'.
Remember when the banks were critisised over their profits and then what happened only a year or so later.... profit can dematerialise quickly if a company is not run efficiently.
As for petrol pump prices, most of that is tax.
These profits should be celebrated. Our pension and ISA funds will benefit, I have found from an 'X-Ray' that I have over £1,000 invested in these two companies (calculated from the proportion of the 21 funds in my pensions and ISA....) I suspect that anyone else reading this will have something similar if investigated.

Thats profit which means its relative to money made regardless of whether its made on the sale of just one llitre or 100 million litres. Profit is always the bottom line.
Who made any ''silly claims'' of it being excessive ? I didn't. Only you...a Freudian slip methinks.
No one disagrees that petrol pump prices reflect the price including tax but when times are bad pump prices go up so why do they not go down when times are good?

Marek - profits can be high as a figure but as a return on capital or as a proportion of turnover may not be and you need that perspective. As I said it does not take much for profits to evaporate.
As for excessive - that was the whole point of your post is it not? That is why you posted, to have a go at successful companies.
You certainly did not do so to praise their success.

That's your interpretation. I was just quoting the profit figures.
I have nothing against successful companies so please stop misrepresenting my views. The simple fact is that oil companies and banks expect us, the public, to help cover their losses when times are bad..fair enough...but they do not reciprocate this by cutting prices when times are good.
Profitable businesses not only have a responsibility to it's shareholders but also its consumers.

You just refuse to understand the financial facts Marek and, it seems, know nothing about the needs of corporate financing.

You do yourself a dis-service by trying to ''rubbish'' my views and intelligence. However you fail or simply can't answer the questions posed to you in open debate.

Marek - then try answering properly the points made properly. As for not answering questions, I spend more time than anyone answering questions, challenging tabloid viewpoints and addressing the specific points raised.
I am not questioning your intelligence by the way - just the influence of your socialist ideals in undermining that intelligence.

at the end of the day we are all paying the price for the shareholders to make their money.
pump prices impact on everything we buy in the shops and also hit our hauliers as they try to compete with rivals that have access to cheaper diesel.
