07:3371943Vince Cable today will be making a fierce attack on the city as the business secretary.
The C.B.I. already up in arms about his speech.
What the 2 parties can't keep hiding behind as they have done in the past is saying vince only speaks as a Lib Dem mamber,
Hes holds an important Govt post, and should be speaking for the Govt.
Slowly this cobbled together government tears itself apart

07:5771946Keith - this is not tearing itself apart regadless of what you want.
Cable is more an old Labour leftie (a Labour councillor before joining the LDs), miserable being in government and better suited to opposition. Frankly he just does not understand what it means to be in government and cannot adjust.
He was clearly speaking to please his audience, no doubt reality will be different.

08:2371949BarryW the speech hasnt been made yet but sections of it were released to the media. He will make it today at the Libdem Conference...but will he change it now following uproar from almost everyone in the city.
Uncle Vince says things like "unrestrained capitalism kills competition!" but is he right?
Lord Digby Jones said on the radio a short time ago that Vince Cable isnt behaving like a Business Secretary, more a Libdem MP rabble rousing in opposition!

08:2571951Lord Digby Jones is correct. Cable does not belong in government, he is not up to it. Mind you, that is true of many in the last Labour government.

I fully understand you hve no control over these comments, but it proves my point that Lib Dems like cable/Hughes and many more are slowly not only ripping there own party apart(see counci elections exeter_) but also this cobbled together Govt.
He may well(cable) not be up to job, thats a matter of opinion, but he should be speaking on behalf of the cobbled together govt, shouldn't he?
clearly spoke on TV today as a Govt minister, not a lib dem member

08:5871957unrestrained capitalism only leads to monopolies, certainly not fair competition.
cable is not the only one saying this.

10:2871968Disagree Howard. Dont like monopolies but you have to define 'unrestrained' something we do not have.
