13:1688777Is one of the forumites by any chance from north of the border, or know someone local who is? We are looking for a Scots voice to read the Address to a Haggis at our Burns Night on Tuesday 25th Jan.
Free haggis, neeps, tatties and a dram for successful applicant>

14:2088780I know someone who used to be secretary of a Scots group here in Dover, she still has a definite Scottish twang.
Are you interested? Mind you she may be at her own Burn's Night.

14:3188781Yes, definitely interested, most burns suppers tend to be on the Saturday before or after.

17:2390213I was up at 2am this morning to catch a fresh Haggis on this special day, I crouched low in the heather creeping forward indian-style trying to keep as quiet as possible, then I glimpsed a medium sized herd of the 'wee beasties' breakfasting on the early heather flowers oblivious to my coming, as they seemed to be drunk on the effects of the early morning dew.
I saw my chance and leaped from out of the bushes and managed to catch one of the scouts on the outer ring of grazing grizzlies by the hind leg, it was a tough fight I can tell you, but I'll leave the nasty details for another time and eventually from what seemed an eternity but lasted merely hours I managed to win the day.
Catching the next available train down south, stopping on the way at a small distillery to collect a nice single malt to toast my adversaries bravery as he lies nestling besides the neeps and tatties - not forgetting to toast Rabbie Burns of course.

17:3890214Barry you should have said, one cooked too much , and has managed to freeze some down!
I managed to persuade hubby after tatties, neeps and swede, ( not the same!) that the next night we had steamed rice with haggis and a little bit of worcester sauce and it came out yummy!!
Good luck with the night Peter, sure it will be awesome!
Just thinking about doing haggis in hole one night in a couple of weeks because too much haggis can drive you a little insane.

09:5790311Aye, what a night that was! Elbows flirted with elbows as a crammed Blakes celebrated Burns Night. Peter and Kathryn donned tartan togs to set the scene. Running a wee bit late, Peter arrived bearing an enormous haggis.
Cousin Norma read the traditional Burns Address to the Haggis, of which I understood nary a word.
Then it was on to the cutting using Peter's dirk.
Perhaps I shouldn't mention here that Norma grabbed Peter by the leg (and she's only known him 5 minutes!) to retrieve the said implement from his sock.
Here's a view of the bar, you can spot a couple of well known Forumites. There's also an ex-pat lurking in there, the lesser spotted Cameron McS.

11:5390322Thanks for the kind thought Jenni, but you can't beat a freshly caught haggis it's the thrill of the hunt you see, now where did I put the scotch
Glad all went well over at Blakes, unfortunately no tartan for me as my dear granny McKeown from Inverness turned my kilt into 3 dressing gowns many moons ago, but I wore my late fathers tartan scarf as I toasted the Baird.

But I don't have a vest.
