OBAMA'S VISIT
- 26 May 2011 04:35107687I won't dwell on the political content but the 3 things I found amusing about his visit were
1, The band accidentally started playing the national anthem over the end of President Obama's speech on Tuesday night.
The slip-up occurred when orchestra of the 1st Battalion Scots Guard piped up with God Save The Queen from the ballroom balcony prematurely, assuming Mr Obama had finished speaking when he picked up his glass to toast the Queen.
In fact, he was only beginning his rousing concluding remarks, in which he quoted Shakespeare.
Clearly bemused, Mr Obama soldiered on as the band played.Sources said the band were normally given copies of both the Queen's speech and that of her guest of honour so they knew when to start playing.But the Americans had refused to hand over a copy of theirs so the band was forced to guess when to strike up
2. During yesterdays address to both Houses, Ken Clarke, the Hush Puppy King. dozed off yet again . Ladbroke's had offered even money on him snoozing again during a major political event this year after he fell asleep during George Osborne's Budget Speech.
3. A female lacky told the waiting Lords and Commoners that before the President spoke Mr Bercow would be making a 'short' speech. Much merriment followed.Marek
I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter) - 26 May 2011 05:53107691Mr Obama seems to take most things in his stride. He appears to be a good humoured fella although I wonder what his remarks or his language was like when his limo grounded coming out of the US Embassy in Dublin.
A president cannot be seen looking awkward so the area was cordoned off visually before himself and Michelle could get out of the car. All the security and advisory staff didnt see that one coming
I guess he could probably cope with the band playing in the near distance but these cock-ups occur. His visit by the looks of it is more photo-opportunity than gritty discussion but then thats okay too.
I bet the pictures both from Ireland and with the Queen looked good beaming back to the US. There are 37 million Irish voters in America, so that will sway hugely where their vote will be going in next years US election.
Oh nooooo did Ken nod off again!!?? I wasnt able to see the speech yesterday but oh noooo

this one sends me to sleep when he starts talking, the interview with andrew marr was dire. - 26 May 2011 10:39107741I felt for poor Nick Clegg , he is responsible for the torie coalition , but Dc gets the good jobs , having a bbq with Obama , and poor Nc gets to see his party destroyed in the election . Not to much doubt in whos running the country .
