    Actually if you look closely at many areas of expenditure there will be very little in the way of actual cuts. Just that increases budgeted by the last 'government' have been knocked on the head. Public spending is budgeted to increase over the life of this parliament, not reduce, but to grow at a much slower pace. That means that living standards are bound to fall in the short term- the more they fall, the quicker they will recover when the private sector starts to take up the slack. All the gov has to do is make sure the private sector has what it needs to grow. Simples.
