    Inspired by this thread, I had more goes at making Gypsy Tart. I've tried for years, and never been successful.

    This time, after a couple of attempts, I nearly managed to make one! True it looks a bit odd, and when it was cooking I thought it was going to escape from the oven as it kept rising and rising, getting bigger and bigger! But ... when it had finally cooled it looked (a bit) like a Gypsy Tart and certainly tasted rather like one.

    An interesting variation, though - we'd run out of ordinary flour, so I used some of the bread flour, complete with seeds, kibbled rye, and barley flakes. It made an unusal but rather nice contrast to the filling.
