"...How else to explain the appointment of Katherine Kerswell as a £142,000-a-year, director general for civil service reform?
So begins the one piece of news in the current edition of Private Eye.
It goes on to remind us all that it was she who left her £197,000 job as Chief Executive of KCC in January with a £450,000 payoff after only eighteen months.

Jeez..Some good wages there..she must do good interviews. But yes she left KCC after a relatively short stint with that huge payoff. Caused a row. This was one of those blisteringly awful big business payoffs we have seen highlighted in recent times.
However I think times are shifting away from such ridiculousness, the silliness of rewarding failure ala Fred Goodwin and so on, one time Sir Fred of course. So perhaps there is a recognition now that this kind of executive cosiness isnt welcome anymore.

Does anyone know if Sir Fred had anything to do with Libor.?

Reg, that is the issue. 'Libor', is a Banking term, Fred was strictly retail.

Eye read...
Ms Kerswell's new boss, Sir Bob Kerslake, is right behind her (Ms.K has) "...a track record of successful change management in the wider public sector." He says.
Sir Bob may well know all about this as it is stated that he is a chum of Ms.K's husband.
There is a little more to this than I give here, more on just why the settlement was so high. Page 13, for those with £1.50 to spare.

look on the positive side tom, ms kerswell and the like are living the high life on our council tax. the money would have only been frittered away on vital public services otherwise.
