22:4386468Had an electric failure today from 11.00-18.00. Unable to rectify myself at first, but after several phone calls to my free emergency call out cover people, I wound up doing it myself, though it was just by chance I decided to unscrew the isolation box which had been changed round last year by Seeboard. Why, I don`t know, but inside was the old style fuse wire which I still had up in the loft. Anyway, the turkey wound up half done along with the roasties, and we had prawn cocktail, pork pies and sandwiches for Christmas dinner. Luckily we have gas rings so could do a brew in the pan. The turkey is now in the fridge pending some expert advice as to whether it can be put back into the oven for cooking. Any expert opinions out there? P.S. My emergency cover states a response within the hour. 18.45 they came back to me, but being Christmas Day, I shouldn`t be too angry. P.P.S. Hope you all had a great day though, and we`re making up for our bad day now in the evening.

22:5386469Why do these things always happen at the worst possible time.
No expert Colin, but as the turkey was not cooked through I think it should be OK to carry on. Put it this way I would take a chance and finish cooking it, it might be a little dryer than you would like though, just keep basting or use a roasting bag or foil and hope.
Good luck and I hope all is OK.

23:0486471Thank you for that Jan, I`ll pass your comments on to the head chef. I think certain foods give an uneasy feeling when reheated or not cooked properly. That loss of power also took our heating out. Hope you had a better day Jan.

23:1886472It was a lot better when some of the visitors went if you know what I mean.

. Whole houseload tomorrow, I think I might leave them after a while and let my daughter do the honours.
You will remember this Christmas for all the wrong reasons, I hope you are getting warmer a few drinks might help but I guess you are still under orders, bad luck, I am just testing my bottle of vintage port at the moment and watching Shrek, good mixture

.
I hope all turns out OK with no ill effects.

23:4686475Sorry to hear about the problems Colin, glad its all sorted now.
As a vegetarian, cannot advise you on the turkey. Me i made a quick mediterranean
vegetable tart, using filo pastry with courgettes, mushrooms, peppers, olives, sun dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts and some parmesan over the top - lovely

10:2386479OMG that sounds great Ross! We had our usual nut qnd quorn roasts witha vegan roast for my son and the usual roasted veg and leeks in cheese sauce etc.
Colin - Christmas always turns up some disaster! Our microwave (used for defrosting and quick-steaming the veg decided to break down on the evening of Christmas eve - not during the day when we could have gone out and bought another one!! Not a patch on yours though - I am sorry you had such a trial, no heat, no main meal. Perhaps the pork pies could become a Colin tradition....? Are you all sorted out for today?

10:4386484Yes thank you Bern. I`m sure the cause is down to a couple of weeks ago when we got a new electric oven, as we`ve always been gas. With my daughter home and up in the loft with her laptop etc and electric heater on, it must have overloaded the system and blew the fuse wire. We had lighting which is on another circuit. Although the oven came with a 13 amp plug, I think it needs wiring into the 30 amp system.

11:0086489Hi Marek, looks like you`ve been through it as well mate. You have my sympathy, hope you`re sorted now though. I think if it was any other day of the year we`d just accept it all. Anyway, there`s always other`s worse off this time of year. Those poor souls going swimming lunchtime for example.

11:0786491I think I've just cancelled Xmas.
Yesterday Xmas morning didn't happen til late evening due to family working so in a way that kicked the wheels out from under Kasey's trolly, this morning The wife is ill in bed aswell as two daughters.
All of the meat was cooked yesterday and we have oodles of it but no one to eat it.
Do I grab a bottle and retire to bed myself? naaaah I think I'll help kasey with some of her new toys then take the dogs out for an extra long walk.
Aint life a bugger.

18:3086519Life can be a bitch Ian - sorry to hear that you and Colin have both had problems and very sorry to hear that Fran is poorly - give her our love.
Good job there's still Monday and Tuesday as holidays, maybe you can reproduce Christmas Day and Boxing Day on those two days.
Keep warm.

18:3686521i have always thought that with turkey you cook it thoroughly the once and eat it.
lots of problems with it otherwise.
best wishes to all those who have been under the weather during the holiday period.

22:5486558Thanks Jenni, belatedly read your message but I`m still here. One problem at the moment, but I`m putting that down to eating too much chocolate up the sister in laws. Ian, sorry you`ve had your troubles as well. Join the club mate, though your`s and Marek`s sound worse than mine. At least I could eat cold and snuggle under the quilt afterwards. Roger, #13 you say about reproducing Christmas Day again on Monday, do you want me to blow the fuse again to make it authentic?

07:4686567No Colin, as Jenni said, don't blow the fuse again.
I was thinking of you and Ian trying to make Monday and Tuesday successful Christmas and Boxing days, not a rerun of the original disasters.

20:1786615Yes we did thanks Colin.
Jean's daughter and her partner are over from Majorca and we've been out and about - drinking and dining and a bit of shopping.
