    Here's an interesting point that I've been trying to find the figures for but can't so you'll have to take my word for it (came from an Open University course originally) - because there is naturally a very small amount of radiation in the air, water and soil, this was taken up by plants and concentrated in coal over millions of years, so a traditional coal power station puts more radiation into the atmosphere over it's lifetime than is present in a nuclear power station.
