I heard Nick Robinson a short while ago this morning interviewing Gordon Brown and the Alastair Darling situation came up...Alastair has called for a bit of humility from the government which has wrongfooted Gordon bigtime. I wont go in to the usual ins and outs of the interview but how Nick Robinson summed up this latest 'humility' situation.
Nick Robinson says that Gordon Brown cannot apologise because he seriously believes in his heart that he did nothing wrong. He genuinely believes the problems came from " a seize up in the global banking system" which stemmed originally from America. This is essentially true of course, no matter how the Tories spin it ..however there may have been some mistakes made here that if they hadnt been made the recession may have hit us less hard. I think thats where Alastair Darling is coming from with this humility angle.
