Melissa, there is no-one who would not want to retain some privacy - to say that if you have nothing to hide why be bothered is to fail to understand the massive intrusion involved and the amoral way "liberty of communication" is applied when someone wants to pry.

I did not know Finlay had been on the Sun, but I am not surprised in the least. I no longer buy the "local" paper and take at your word the fact that personal attacks and intrusions have reduced, and will try not to "tie to the same brush" all reporters, and I think I manage that anyway - some people I know are actually very principled journalists and have achieved a great deal without resorting to foul play and deviance, and for whom I have the greatest respect. However, they are a minority, especially in tabloid journalism, and I would note that, particularly in local journo-land, there are quick-wins for them to be had reporting love 'em stories around kids and schools - and fair play, it is a good way to get publicity for the events so i am not knocking it! - that provide a smokescreen for the paucity of local coverage elsewhere and the dirty tricks that sometimes enable the other stories to be reported.
