20:1412071a missive has arrived on my doorstep from "my local conservative team".
the heading is maxton, elms vale and priory ward news, autumn 2008.
near enough i suppose.
most of it exhorts the reader to use the local bus services.
upon turning over the document there is the usual stuff about litter and dirty streets, how attitudes need to change etc.
the second half of this second side, it gives the names of nigel and roger frayne as my local conservative team.
it then goes on to advise me that nigel and roger are available to to everyone in "CASTLE" ward.

20:4412075As a resident of Castle Ward yes I can certainly confirm that Nigel is the chap around here. Roger Frayne though is not a Castle Ward councillor, not that I have heard of anyway. So perhaps the wording is akew Howard, and Roger is the guy for your ward whereas Nigel is here in Castle. Although why they would need to mention Nigel at all on that leaflet is odd as he has nothing to do with overthere.
Anyway one way or another its a confused message.Has Roger Frayne suddenly found fame and calling in Castle Ward. I dunno is the godstruth!

21:2712079the whole thing was a bit stange, there was also enclosed a letter addressed to me from mt elphicke(thanks chas).
it enclosed a questionnaire that looked decidedly like a spoof.
example question 2) would you like to see a proper hospital in dover?
tick yes or no.!!!
question 3) have you ever been a victim of anti-social behaviour?
tick yes or no.
on the front of the questionnaire there is a description of the man himself stating that he lives in deal!!
he may have a house there, as well as other place/places, but he lives in london s.w.1.
having checked it is not a cardboard box either.
having said all that, there is a good pic of him on the front(no tie again though).

21:5012081I wonder if the "Office" got confused with Roger Frayne and me Howard.
It was a bit late to deliver the leaflet - dated for Autumn and now it's new year. The survey can be useful and the responses are listened to.

21:5312082Thinking about it, Roger Frayne is a Castle ward Councillor - for the Town Council though, not District. I still think it's a mix-up - they do happen.

23:2112087i reached that conclusion roger.
i think that they had a few newsletters over from the castle ward back in october, then doctored them to fit my ward,
but forgot to alter the other side.
have to disagree with you about the questionnaire though.
it came across as one of those ads in the tabloids years ago that said "do you want to be rich"?
do you want a proper hospital is a similar question.
then the biggie "have you been the victim of anti social behaviour"?
is there anyone here in dover or any part of the uk that can say no?
the shredder got some extra work today.
incidentally, i do not blame chas, people in the know should be advising him, pointing him in the right direction and crossing the t's etc.
our own paul whatshisname was thrown to the sharks in barnsley when he first stood for parliament, look where he is now.

07:3912092That is true Howard and I for one and I know that others think so too, that Dover would not be punching above its weight and be on the threshold of the most extensive regeneration Dover has ever seen, if it weren't for Paul.
Good job for us that he didn't get elected there - but Barnsley's loss.

08:1912097Howard
They have just reproduced the letter put out in Castle, giving the impression that Nigel is a active in priory
didn't realise KCC elections were that close!!!
At least we know who the conservative candidate will be!!
On the Barnsley result, maybe he result should b reproduced, If I remember the toru candidate result vote wise was dismal.
So most probably BARNSLEY happy.
Anyone reproducre the full result of the Barnsley election?

14:4612134If you remember I posted something about a newsletter regarding recycling from a J Rook and C Smith who are not my councillors. At the time I suggested that they would be the Tory candidates in the coming KCC elections and I concur with Keith, these two mentioned in the newsletter are likely to be the candidates in the Dover ward.

15:4612138Is it me or was the leaflet a fabrication by default and ineptitude? You are right not to blame C Elphick, he didn't devise and print them, but whoever did should be ashamed!! There's no need for such a ****up.

20:3512172i bet that paul has some anecdotes from barnsley.
most politicos when starting out cut their teeth in bandit country.
i remember ted heath describing being introduced at a function as the new prospective candidate for broadstairs.
apparently the audience were there for an important local meeting that was going to be heated.
the compere starts of with, this is edward heath, born in kent.
silence
educated in kent
silence
runs a small business in kent.
a voice at the back pipes up"and he can f----ing die here too!!"

it is all media stuff.
party broadcasts on the box, lurid headlines in barry's red tops and the rare glimpse of the thoughts of chas on here.

08:4612205Thoroughly enjoyed it, Howard. Particularly the public meetings. The advantage I had was that my father ,grandfather & most of the male members of those generations were coalminers. They have an individual humour & culture which you needed to understand. Being chased down a cul-de-sac by an axeman was also an interesting experience[not one to be repeated].
