One of the traditional spreads from days gone by, New Zealand butter, with ANCHOR being the most popular brand. We`ve bought the odd tub of soft spread Anchor butter, our usual being Bertolli olive spread. I actually read the words on the tub today, as I couldn`t see New Zealand butter on it. The actual words on the tub tell`s us, made in the E.U. from New Zealand butter. If the butter comes from NZ, how can the E.U. make it? I`m confused.

It would then read packaged in the EU Howard. I`ve just checked again and it is showing as made in the EU, which of course, doesn`t make sense. Those Brussel`s twerps again I suspect!

It is probably New Zealand butter that is processed in the EU to make it "soft spread" I prefer Clover myself.

how can you like clover?
give me lurpak any time, comes from a eurosceptic country like us too.
Howard Mcsweeney,
Eurekia!! At last something we agree on. I knew if we persevered we would finally make it!!

SMILEY:

Back in the 60's, when I worked for a small chain of Essex supermarkets, Fernleaf used to be by some distance the number one selling butter from New Zealand. Main challengrs were Anchor followed by Kanagaroo butter from Oz. Lurpak is/was for the well off, priced at 30% above others.
We now use Country Life, hopefully in the belief that is a British product.

Back in the early 60`s Sid, we could only afford Stork or Echo. Butter was a real treat, but didn`t last long. I had to have it on thick.

Yep, Colin, both Stork and Echo were very big sellers, as was BlueBand of course.
