I don't know why he just doesn't stick to talking about religion and forget pontificating on areas where merely repeats op-eds from the columns of the Guardian. It's getting really boring now.
All he has to say every year is the usual stuff about goodwill to all men, I pray for a peaceful world and other words of comfort to soothe his flock.
He's getting more like the Prince of Wales.

Silly me, I thought that a religion that was rooted in equality and fairness might have an obligation to promote respect and inclusion.
Dammit, I bit. I didn't mean to.

i didn't see problem with the speech, it was not party political.
he has aligned himself with the campaign to stop county council cuts in yoof spending for some time.
i think he is genuinely concerned about social breakdown and sees future problems with the young as a catalyst for serious problems.
in the case the church is much in line with what people are concerned about.

In his four and a half minutes of air-time he found two minutes or so to let young people speak for themselves. I think his New Year Message did it's greatest good in letting the majority view speak for itself.

it is very difficult for any leading lights in whatever fields they are in not to speak on items that affect them

makes a pleasant change for a leading cleric to be talking about peace and reconciliation rather than urging his/her followers to attack others.
