My father who lives in Canterbury usually receives his mail anytime between 2.00 and 5.00 pm - if he's lucky.

What is it with Dover Express Headlines? - Always so negative. If everyone is getting their post later are our posties being given a lay in? If the delivery routes are being reorganised then some of us will also get our mail earlier...hopefully.

Mike I certainly think some of them start later and finish later.
I do not get my mail until lunchtime sometimes around 2.00pm that is in spite of living less than 5 minutes from the sorting office, a real nuisance if I am waiting for something important that requires immediate action.
Stamps go up while service goes down but is not the local postman at fault it is their top managers.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Absolutely rubbish decision.
Not good enough, Royal Mail!

a few years back royal mail announced they had plans to give priority to businesses over households, something that must be unworkable other than on industrial estates.
take pencester road and castle street for example, with businesses on the ground floor and residents above, also more and more people work from home.

Yes Howard, I worked from home them and my deliveries changed from 9am ish to 1pm ish. It was often quite inconvenient.

I also work from home and definitely do not welcome this move. bad for home businesses and will mean more correspondence will be sent by e-mail.

It's not entirely fair to blame Royal Mail for this. Since the postal market was opened up to competition a decade or so ago, the Royal Mail has taken a massive hit from rival companies cherry-picking the most profitable work. Meanwhile, Royal Mail is expected to maintain the "Universal Service", but on hugely reduced income. In the postal market, competition has seen prices rise and services reduce. It has certainly not benefited the customer.

I used to work for Royal Mail, albeit at Charlton Green and not the delivery office. Picking up what SWWood said about cherry picking the most profitable work. I did a spell working at the Canterbury depot and every night these other companies would collect mail from businesses then bring it to us to then put through our machines. From there it would go to the delivery office where it would then be delivered by the postmen/women.
