12:5169480Following Barry's posting on Sticky, etc.... I thought I would start a new thread on my particular interests. Knitting, stitching, painting....... etc. Now, what is the betting that there is not one single reply? Too non-contentious!!

12:5569481I think the quilting fraternity may be interested in this thread. The only needle I am any good with is the one used for trying to stitch up politicos. Th only brush I am any good with is a broad brush. As for knitting, I always wanted a home made knitted football scarf for the winter months, but my mother, wife and daughter have failed to deliver on that score. Never mind eh?

14:2269495Just out of curiosity Diana, is knitting done today as a hobby or is it cheaper than buying a woolen garment ready made? I know there`s a couple of wool shops in Dover, stacked with a variety of colour`s, so it look`s to me like it`s as popular today as it ever was. Also, do any of the young generation take it up these days?

15:4969515Not sure about Quilting, but back in the mid-80s (Decade - not my age you wits!) I did try Knitting as it was said at the time that it was good for de-stressing you after work.
I got so wound-up by getting the tension wrong as I tried to knit that I threw the wool and needles out the train window on the way back home...never again.
Do love to sketch and paint a bit - much more my style and a lot less stress.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

17:3869530Diana, for a moment I thought your thread: new subjects, was referring to new passports being issued all over Britain, but then, to my relief, It turns out to be quite innocent!

18:4569552In my youth it was Leyton Orient or Ilford Bern. Now, it is Dover Athletic. I always support the local team no matter how good or bad they may be. I suppose not living in Manchester qualifies me for begin an official supporter of Manscum, but that would never do.

18:5569559I used to do a lot of knitting and sewing but can't manage it now, I have a part paralysed right arm from polio as a child.
I now spend much too much time on the computer playing games and posting on various forums.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

19:0269561Knitting, stitching, rag rugs - definitely. Very relaxing and addictive. I don't know what I would do without these!
Painting - I may start again soon.
Let's have a few ideas .... and pictures ....

19:1369567You must do alot of reading Kath with all the vast amount of information and picture`s you`ve put on here. I`ve been soaking it all up, as well as other member`s comment`s. I`ve certainly been buying and reading any books on Dover I can get hold of. Before the forum, I had no interest, though this has coincided with me finishing work. Anyway, back to the knitting..........

09:1069660Colin - I don't do a lot of reading now, but have done a lot of genealogy research in the past at Canterbury archives. Re Dover, Bob has a large collection of photos and pictures, and articles, many of which he has written over the years, and a lot of the pictures are now on his computer so I can easily look them up. Dover is certainly very interesting.

11:2970072What sort of things do you stitch, Jenni ??
I like to do things using recycled items, like rag rugs, (using old bits of fabric), and fabric bags.
