Considering there are an estimated 30 million (£30,000,000) fake £1 coins that are in circulation at the moment something had to be done to take them out of circulation.

two unrelated connections here.
1/it has the same amount of sides as the 12 stars on the eu flag.
2/we now have two [2] coins with silver middles,the same as the euro coins..
is the government trying to hint as to whats coming in the future.

Yes I have some in my wallet because I regularly go to the eurozone. I also have UAE dirhams. When I go to foreign countries I use foreign money. When I'm in Britain I use British money. Simples.

Is the new coin the same diameter and weight as the old £1 coin, if it is would coin machines have to be adapted?
