"The Secretary of State has decided not to confirm the transfer scheme from the Board. He reached this conclusion taking into account his published policy. He concluded that the transfer scheme proposed would not ensure a sufficient level of enduring community participation in the port. He also concluded that in so far as the Board made the application in order to be able to obtain the additional finance necessary to undertake the proposed redevelopment of the Western Docks, there were other options available to secure that redevelopment."
The above are the only reasons given for rejecting the DHB proposals.
I'm afraid that history and heritage mean little to nothing to the present government and meant less to the last one. They were not given as reasons for rejecting the DHB proposals and, had the campaign been fought on history and heritage, the battle would have been lost.
As it is, the DHB proposal has been rejected on the grounds given above and it is now up to this generation to ensure that we are the last one that has to face a private equity sale proposal. Your way Mr Vic merely ensures that another generation has to do the same as we have all over again. I do not understand why you wish to burden the next generation with the same fight again as I know that you have a heart for what is best for Dover and that you have done and continue to do so much to try and improve things in our communities.
The DPPT, being one of many consultees that helped to ensure that the DHB proposals did not prosper, now goes on to the next round to ensure that the port is owned in perpetuity for the nation by the communities of Dover and the surrounding district.
