  This is one of the funniest things I have read in ages, the logical extension must be Identity parades with witnesses having 6 pairs of eyes to look at.

  The subject of uniforms was mentioned in the Times today. It said that some NHS trusts prefer that veils should not be worn when treating patients . However they may be worn when having lunch!

  Couldnt take any "police " officer seriously dressed in a bin bag and how would we know if they were male or female ,PC gone way OTT

  I am all for religious tolerance but am against the veil being worn when it hides every single feature so there is no way of knowing who the person is.
  
  The idea of a veiled police officer is completely daft never mind the practicalities.

  Listened to a spokesman on the radio this morning who said they had many female Muslims on the force, none of whom had ever requested to wear anything other than police uniform. Reg - it wouldn't happen here in France where the burka is banned though I wish I could find a beer garden
