For starters the long term outlook for coal is bleak. Only today the announcement was that another 2 Gigawatt of power is to be taken out of the grid because of egregious environmental laws making coal power untenable. That's 2 Gigawatt. It would take hundreds of wind turbines (ones that were spinning of course) to replace that lost output. So there's hardly any point in digging it up if you can't use it, is there?
Then they want to devote half of their hard earned cash on investing in renewables. I'm thinking, cashing in on the subsidies gravy train? I could be wrong of course but this is what is normally meant when talking in terms of "investing in renewables".
Regarding their commendable efforts to source locally grown coal it doesn't really amount to much.
200,000 tonnes extracted annually compared to the 60 odd million tonnes we use every year. That's not very much when all is said and done.
It then goes on to quote the experts who waffle on, once again, about catastrophic climate change. Let's just leave that silliness there, shall we?
Of course the old cannard that is carbon capture and storage is bravely mentioned. It doesn't work and never will work. It's been tried on a small scale which is exactly where it has remained - small scale. It's utter nonsense and can be highly dangerous not to mention extremely expensive, oh and pointless to boot.
Apart from that there's nothing not to like.
