Have just returned from a journey via Lille and noted that there were an increasing number of dwellings within Calais's dunes but what was a total surprise was a very large and new campsite within the urban confines of Lille. This new development will surely put pressure on the local politicians to seek an answer to this problem and our politicians should be aware of this.

Your second option Howard. These camp sites are a feature of many parts of France especially Paris. The authorities destroy them but they appear elsewhere very quickly. I have seen them in both Spain and Portugal, it is not the camps I have a problem with but one must have sympathy with those residents nearest the sites as they become the victims of both theft and begging as this is the only way camp residents can survive.
