It will be interesting to see how they go about justifying their own existence! Cut backs are the order of the day and we are all in this together after all.
This was a Conservative pledge in the election and so it is right that this be pursued. A deeper cull is difficult due to the executive largely emanating from the legislature. A smaller legislature would be possible only if we had a directly elected executive because reducing the size of the legislature would reduce the power and influence of the backbenchers further. Personally I prefer the executive to be answerable to the legislature in a direct way and allowing room for more maverick or backbench personalities.
