good question david, i always assumed that all councillors voted once in the same way that town councillors vote in the mayor.

What a shame!
About time we had someone considerably younger. Much better to retire gracefully than wait to be voted out I think.
Anyway, why have a ceremonial Chairman AND a ceremonial Mayor. The whole set up is costly and bonkers.

I think next year Nigel ought to be Chairman. He'd like that.

Pretension and ego once again Simon - it saves DDC councillors having to worry about the real world or having to address the myriad problems of the district.
It also keeps vol-au-vent makers in business....

disagree with you totally simon.
firstly it can only be someone that is retired or rolling in so much dosh that they don't need to work.
secondly sue is very good at the job, never fails to turn up when requested has an easy going manner that people warm to, much the same can be said of our mayor.

That's alright Howard, we don't have to agree on everything!
All we need is a Mayor. There we are. An opinion!
